Pool Therapy
MAPS therapeutic pools are located in Edina, Maple Grove and Coon Rapids. Our Edina and Maple Grove rehabilitation pools are located within our clinical space, and operate at approximately 98 degrees with saltwater medium. Saltwater is helpful for buoyancy purposes as well as for lowered chlorine requirements which can be irritating to patients who are chemically sensitive. Our Coon Rapids pool therapy is performed at Lifetime Fitness pool and is operated at approximately 92 degrees.
MAPS pool therapy is individualized 1:1 therapy, not group therapy. We feel this is important to ensure your patients meet their full rehabilitation potential. Pool therapy goals are directed at improved postural awareness, improved spine
stabilization ability, improved balance and body mechanics, and improved overall functional endurance. Patients who have participated in pool therapy at other facilities will find that the approach at MAPS pool therapy is unique and different from what they have completed elsewhere, with improved outcomes noted with MAPS rehabilitation approach. Often pool therapy is used initially as a means to smooth the transition to more advanced land-based therapy.
For patients who ultimately perform their independent home exercise program most successfully in an aquatic environment, we offer pool aftercare for a four-month period after discharge from physical therapy.
